CUMMINS ANNOUNCES THE INTRODUCTION OF A NEW LINE OF UL1008 TRANSFER SWITCHES WITH INDUSTRY LEADING WITHSTAND AND CLOSING RATINGS AND A NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART CONTROL

Global technology and power system solutions leader Cummins, Inc. (NYSE: CMI) has introduced the next generation of reliable power transfer equipment for mission-critical and life-saving applications, the PowerCommand® X-Series transfer switches.

The PowerComand® X-Series transfer switches are designed for versatility with current ratings from 40 amps to 3000 amps. The new products, available as both transfer switches and service-entrance rated transfer switches, offer the highest UL1008 time-based and short-time withstand and closing ratings (WCR) in the industry.

“The power market is more dynamic than ever, featuring stringent codes and standards, emerging technologies, and more fragmented and complex ecosystems, translating to increased demand for reliable solutions, digitization and integrability, and one-stop customer support,” said Gino Butera, Vice President of Cummins Power Systems. “The PowerCommand® X-Series is designed to meet and exceed such market demands. The superior capability of the X-Series, backed by the Cummins brand, offers unrivaled value for our customers.”

The X-Series transfer switches incorporate the innovative High Endurance Mechanism (HEM) with patented blow-on technology only available from Cummins. This technology greatly improves product reliability and enables the switches to withstand extreme fault current conditions. In addition, with the high WCR, the X-Series transfer switches offer power system designers and consulting specifying engineers the freedom to select any generic UL listed over-current protection device to protect the transfer switch. This greatly simplifying the tasks of electrical distribution designs and selective coordination throughout the system.

Additionally, the X-Series is equipped with the Cummins PowerCommand® 80 control, designed by a team of expert controls engineers with a deep understanding of power generation applications. With the PowerCommand® 80, users receive a fully integrated high accuracy power quality metering, load management, power sensing, and networking solutions that do not require any add-one modules. The highly advanced and configurable control is designed to work in a variety of applications with an easy-to-navigate colored human-machine interface (HMI) with all critical information such as voltage, current, load, harmonic analysis, and faults and alarms readily available to keep the operator in-touch with the system.

The X-Series complies with the latest applicable codes and standards, such as NFPA70 (NEC), NFPA110, NFP99, is seismic-certified to IBC requirements, and pre-approved for OSHPD.

“With increased grid instability and increased power outages due to inclement weather and natural disasters, it is vital that life-saving applications are backed by robust and reliable power systems and the transfer of power is seamless. From generator set paralleling to system-level controls, transfer switches, and digital solutions Cummins Power Generation experts draw from over 100 years of providing power, and fully understand the power systems space,” Butera concluded.
