Cummins M11 engine 250 hours maintenance content

What kind of work does the Cummins M11 engine do after maintenance for 250 hours? For common engines, such as excavators, bulldozers, cranes, etc., if you work every day, then 250 hours, about two months of work time.

Daily maintenance of Cummins M11 engine

  1. Good maintenance begins with mastering the working conditions of the engine and its systems on a daily basis. First check the following conditions before starting the engine;

leakage

Loose or damaged parts

Belt worn or damaged

Any change in the appearance of the engine

  1. When the following phenomena are found during daily maintenance, measures must be taken to remove them, and if necessary, they can be handled by an approved service organization.

Oil pressure is too low

Low power

Abnormal water temperature or oil temperature

Abnormal engine noise

Smoke becomes bigger

Increased coolant, fuel, and oil consumption

Oil leakage, water leakage

  1. Twist the oil-water separation nut at the bottom of the fuel filter core to open the water inside the net.
  2. Pull out the dipstick and check if the oil level is appropriate. The oil level should be between the marks H and L on the dipstick. When the oil level is lower than the mark L, the engine must not operate.
  3. Uncover the tank lid to check the water level. In particular, it should be emphasized that the leak-proofing agent should not be incorporated into the coolant, otherwise the engine cooling water circuit will be blocked and the engine will overheat. When the engine is adding water, wait for the water temperature to drop below 50’C. Otherwise, cold water will cause the casting to crack when it is added to the hot engine. Add water just to the bottom of the water inlet.
  4. Check the fan for cracks and loose blades every day. The engine cannot be used to pull the fan blades by hand. When the engine is required, the pulley nut fuel pump side accessory can be used to drive the pulley nut.
  5. Check that the belt is tight and that the grease does not fall on the belt. The belt may have small cracks, but it should be replaced when there is tearing or chipping. The surface of the belt is bright to indicate that the belt slip should be adjusted. When the belt is tight, the deflection method can be used. When the force of 110N is applied to the belt, the deflection is greater than the “belt center distance X belt thickness (mm) ÷ 305”, indicating that the belt should be too loose.
  6. Check the crankcase ventilation pipe outlet and the pipe for clogging or icing. The blockage or icing may cause poor ventilation and damage the engine. The blockage or icing should be eliminated. The vent pipe can be removed when it is removed.

Cummins M11 engine weekly maintenance content

Daily maintenance is performed while the weekly maintenance contents are being carried out.

1 The maximum design value of the engine intake resistance is 635mmH20, and the air resistance can be judged by the air resistance indicator. When the red mark (2) of the air resistance indicator in the figure on the right rises to the window (1), the filter element should be replaced. After the air filter is repaired, press the button at (3) to reset the indicator mark (2).

2 The paper filter (6) in the dry filter can be purged with compressed air at a pressure of approximately 200 kPa. The nozzle must not be too close to the paper during purging. When removing the filter element, remove the wing nut (1) and the air filter cover (2) in turn, and then remove the core (6) for purging. The core that is purged multiple times should be replaced. Special emphasis is placed on the core paper with holes, loose or indented face seals and other damage that can cause air to enter the engine without filtration. The core must be replaced.

3 When the air filter is removed and not replaced, the engine cannot be operated to prevent dust from entering the cylinder. Carefully push and pull the core in the center of the shell to avoid damage to the core.

4 Check if there is air leakage in each hoop of the intake pipe, and tighten the nut if there is air leakage. Note that the tightening torque should be appropriate to avoid the thread slip.

Cummins M11 engine runs for 250 hours or 6 months of maintenance

Daily and weekly maintenance is required for this maintenance.

1 Replace the fuel filter

Every 250 hours or 6 months of operation, no matter which time comes first, it must be replaced.

Remove the filter element, unscrew the filter element in the direction shown and remove the seal on the inner ring thread and the large seal on the outer circle. Wipe the filter holder with a lint-free cloth.

Replace with a new fuel filter with water and oil separation approved by the engine manufacturer. Apply oil to the sealing surface and fill the core with diesel oil.

Install the filter element, tighten as shown in the figure, and then tighten 1/2–3/4 turn when the seal ring contacts the seat. Too tight to tighten the thread and core.

The fuel should be qualified according to national standards.

2 Change oil and oil filter

When the engine is running until the water temperature reaches 60’C, stop and remove the oil drain plug at the bottom of the oil pan to release the oil.

Do not use the screw plugs on both sides of the oil pan to drain the oil, and the screw plug oil on both sides is not complete. Do not extend the oil change cycle or the engine life will be affected.

Remove the oil filter. Wipe the filter holder underneath and fill the new filter with new oil. The oil filter is installed in the same way as the basic method of the fuel filter described in 1. The engine oil is installed in the core.

Wipe the oil drain plug and replace it with the oil pan. Tighten the screw plug to 88N. m. Inject new oil into the correct position, between the oil level and the H and L marks on the dipstick. The engine has an oil capacity of 39 liters and a sump capacity of 34 liters.

WARNING: Cummins engines must use APl 15W/40 CF4 or CG4 grade oil.

Domestic users can use 15W/40CD engine oil specially supplied by Chongqing Cummins Engine Company. Never use supercharged engine oil or other alternative engine oil, otherwise the engine will be damaged early.

Start the engine and check for leaks. Keep an eye on the oil pressure and reach the normal position within 15 seconds. Stop for about 10 minutes and check if the oil level is between H and L on the dipstick.

3 Replace the water filter to check the SCA concentration

Screw the switch on the water filter holder to the OFF position. Unscrew the water filter, wipe the lower seat and install the new water filter. Screw into the pad and tighten 1/2–3/4 turns. Then turn the switch on the water filter holder back to the ON position. The engine is started to exhaust air from the cooling system and water is added to the normal position.

Note: When using the SCA inspection kit to check the SCA concentration exceeds 3 units, do not change the water filter.

Check the package with SCA and check the SCA concentration in the engine coolant as described in the package.
